5 Health Benefits of Ajwain

Ajwain or Carom seeds in English is a spice found in every Indian household and widely used in Indian cuisines. It is an herbal plant that belongs to the Apiaceae family, which also includes coriander, fennel, and caraway, etc. It has a unique pungent & bitter taste, and its color varies from slightly olive green to brown.

  1. Improves Digestion: Your mother would have probably given you Ajwain water whenever you had stomach pain or suffered from indigestion. It is the most common home remedy to treat indigestion, stomach aches or cramps, or other gastric problems. Ajwain improves gut health through active enzymes that release gastric juices. For best results, take Ajwain seeds with a pinch of salt, mix them in lukewarm water and drink it on an empty stomach; this helps fight indigestion and improves gut health.
  2. Provides Relief from Tooth Ache: Ajwain seeds have thymol and other essential oils known to have anti-inflammatory properties. It can help to reduce toothache. For pain relief, adding 1tsp of Ajwain seeds with a pinch of salt in lukewarm water and gargling with it 2-3 times may give instant results.
